DACA is dead
DACA is dead. Senate Democrats just ensured its demise. Let the deportations begin.
The Senate passed a compromise bill on comprehensive immigration reform in 2014 with 68 votes. Boehner and Cantor made sure that House was never even allowed to vote on it.
The Democratic Party made a commitment to support DACA. A few days ago they actually showed that commitment by shutting down the government unless a DACA agreement was part of the budget bill. Today they folded with a totally vague agreement that a DACA bill will be brought to the floor of the Senate by February 8.
This morning's surrender includes NO commitment from either Ryan or Trump that the House would EVER vote on a DACA bill, even if one does get passed by the Senate.
DACA is dead. Chuck Schumer (who yesterday offered Trump $18 billion for his wall) may have saved Heidi Heitkamp's seat in North Dakota, but in doing so he has engineered a epic disaster for this country--especially for the 800,00O DACA recipients, for all our Hispanic citizens, for progressives, for millenials, and for the Democratic Party. Shameful. A truly terrible day.
